Ternion® Corporation won the Family-Friendly Business Award in the category for businesses with less than 50 employees at a ceremony sponsored by the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce and the National Children’s Advocacy Center on April 10, 2007. Ternion was especially honored to receive this award because being family-friendly has always been one of its main goals.
Having spouses and children themselves, Ternion’s founders established policies that allow their employees to put their family lives above work and, more importantly, a company culture that puts these policies into practice. They realized that when employees have fulfilling home lives they are more productive at work, more committed to the company’s success, and more likely to contribute to a positive work environment.
Some of Ternion’s family-friendly policies include flexible work schedules, no pressure to work overtime, 100% paid insurance, and paid maternity and paternity leave.
In addition, having a family-friendly company culture often makes Ternion more attractive to job candidates and helps lure some of the brightest minds in Huntsville away from the much larger, well-known companies located in the area.
Here’s what some of Ternion’s employees have to say about its family-friendly culture.
“If you are a working mother, Ternion gives you the best of both worlds. You can provide for your family but also have time to spend with them.”
“The flexibility at Ternion allows me to take care of my parents. This is especially helpful because my dad has several recurring doctors’ appointments that are required to monitor his health.”
“Ternion’s paternity leave policy made it possible for me to look after my family after our daughter was born. I didn’t have to worry about work when her stay in the hospital ran longer than expected.”
“At my last job, I was constantly working overtime. It seemed like I never got to go home, and when I did get to, I was too exhausted to enjoy my family. That’s one of the main reasons I decided to come to Ternion.”
